A. Lange & Söhne

Ferdinand Adolphe Lange founded a watch shop in 1845 in Glashütte, a small town near the German city of Dresden, specializing in precision pocket watches. Following his death, his sons Emil and Richard took over, carrying on the family tradition. Having ended up in East Germany following the division of Germany after the Second World War, the company fell into decline. After reunification, however, the business was revived by Walter Lange, the founder’s great-grandson. The first series of ‘new’ timepieces by A. Lange & Söhne was presented in 1994, and it was a hotly anticipated collection from the off.

Today, A. Lange & Söhne enjoys an esteemed reputation and is highly regarded by watch aficionados around the world. Their timepieces are unique in terms of design and complications, such as a watch with a tourbillon that can be stopped when setting the time – a technically impressive feat. The way information is displayed on the dial is another example of the innovation offered by A. Lange & Söhne, with sub-dials of varying sizes and digital displays on their mechanical watches. This is, without a doubt, a brand for connoisseurs.
