Panerai started as a small watchmaker’s shop in Florence. The company initially produced watches for divers in the Italian Navy, having to take into account the special conditions under which the watches were used. Panerai therefore created waterproof watches with a clear dial and illuminated indicators and hands. Once the watches were made available to the general public, a success story was born.
Panerai watches are classified as one of two models: Radiomir and Luminor, a concept to which the brand has remained loyal over the years. The Radiomir models are known for their fairly classic design and traditional winding stem, while the Luminor models feature a distinctive bridge to protect the stem. The brand enjoyed worldwide success after being acquired by the Richemont group, but did not sway from its traditional concept. The Italian flair is still visible, and despite the many new model suggestions proposed over the years, it remains instantly recognizable. Panerai is synonymous with design, style, and quality, and in recent years, with the mechanisms it has produced.
